Vision Statement

To Serve the Industrial and Professional Needs of Members.

  1. The Union is an industrial and professional body serving the industrial and professional needs of members employed in the South Australian non-government education and training sectors.

  2. The Union is a registered union within both the South Australian and the Federal industrial jurisdictions.

  3. As a union, the Union sees itself as a part of the Australian and international organised labour movement and will contribute its support to Australian and international labour causes as it considers appropriate.

  4. The Union is committed to collectivism in its actions and responses to industrial and professional issues and as such follows the “Organising” approach to unionism.

  5. The Union is also the South Australian state branch of the Independent Education Union of Australia and as such has legitimate interests in industrial, education and training issues not only within, but also beyond the boundaries of South Australia.

  6. The Union interprets the “needs of members” to include the quality of life of the members and as such extends its legitimate areas of involvement to social, economic, humanitarian and political areas beyond the direct employment relationship and narrow employment-related skills.

  7. The Union shall seek to conduct its activities in a manner consistent with the following Operating Principles
     

Operating Principles

IEU(SA) SHALL in giving effect to its Mission Statement seek to:

  1. Be active and effective in defence of member's rights and the promotion of their interests, issues and collective values.

  2. Be strong through membership numbers and empowerment by emphasising recruitment, training and education for active representation.

  3. Maximise participation by members in the making and implementation of decisions that effect their working lives.

  4. Conduct itself in an energetic and effective way so as to present a credible and respected image to the membership, the education community, employers and broader community.

  5. Model good practice in terms of democratic processes in decision-making, example-based leadership, inclusivity, equity and equality, in terms of its own structures and practices.
